The Catana 55 was based on the popular Catana 50 model with a 5′ hull/deck extension from the mast bulkhead forward. As a result the foretriangle is 5′ longer for larger self-tacking Solent (Jib) and other larger headsails. In addition the Catana 55 has a lightship weight 2+ tons lighter than the great majority of Catana 50 built due in part to added carbon and being resin infused. Only 5 were built.
