In developing the concept for CROSSWATER, we decided to set an operational goal of long range and relatively high cruising speed. We were very conscious that a slow boat or one that has short legs inevitably will have to endure unfavorable weather at sea. That is a safety risk we wanted to avoid. We felt CROSSWATER should have the operational flexibility to employ speed or course diversion to avoid bad weather at sea. Our experience is that a fast boat with long legs is a safer boat, and it does not matter if you are engaged in an ocean passage or making a coastal cruise. In fact, bad weather in a coastal cruise is more dangerous than bad weather in the open sea.
