S/V Vdom is a 2012 Lagoon 400 offered for sale by World’s Aquarium, a 501 C 3 non profit located in Spokane Washington and dedicated to the rescue of sea lions in the Gulf of California.

The only change in our floor plan was forward starboard cabin is now converted to storage and Laundry room.

History: V-Dom, formerly known as Cava, was purchased by it’s original owners, an elderly French couple direct from the Lagoon factory in France in 2012. For the first two years or so of it’s life it sailed some of the intercostal waterways of Europe and the Spanish Mediterranean. In 2014 a professional skipper was hired to help cross the Atlantic with the owners. The vessel then cruised in Caribbean waters up to the east coast of the United States and eventually through the Panama Canal and ended up in La Paz Baja Sur. In April of 2021 World’s Aquarium purchased her for the purpose of Sea Lion rescue missions in the Gulf of California.

The boat was acquired in an off shore purchase. Vince Radice, the executive director of World’s Aquarium is now authorized by the board of directors of World’s Aquarium to sell vessel. Worlds Aquarium now offers Vdom with out a broker and has lowered it’s original purchase price of 335,000 dollars. Thus World’s Aquarium is selling V-Dom as is where is without any brokers involved allowing new owners a substantial savings in time and money.

V-Dom is legally registered to World’s Aquarium in The United States of America in the state of Delaware. Delaware is a title state and thus transfer of ownership is as simple as signing the title over to her new owner. Since V-Dom was an off shore purchase she is currently on her first Temporary Import Permit (TIP) so new the owners, should they decide to stay in Mexico can very easily transfer the TIP into their name.

In March of 2021 Vince conducted a survey of V-Dom. Prior to Vince’s survey V-Dom was taken out of the water and a substantial amount of maintenance was done on the Vessel. All through hulls below the water line were changed except holding tank valves. The bottom units on Sail Drives were serviced and new propellors were installed. The old props are still on the boat as back up. New high quality vinyl bottom paint was applied. The survey revealed a few relatively common issues for a 2012 Lagoon.

Port side sail drive leaked transmission oil because of a failed lib seal. This seal was replaced by an authorized Yanmar dealer in La Paz. Since purchase the starboard side sail drive now has a tiny oil leak. Eventually it will be time change lip seal on starboard side. Normal maintenance for Yanmar sail drives.

Vince went aloft and surveyed the standing rigging. Upon inspection, the lower port side shroud showed some chaff. Amazingly enough, many Lagoon Cat’s come from the factory improperly rigged. Upon inspection, a professional rigger replaced the lower shroud, and we also changed the position of the starboard lowers so the double diamond rig no longer touch themselves.
The Stainless steel steering cables were also upon inspection found to be in need of replacement and were replaced with 1/4 inch galvanized cables.

The Windless has been serviced with new bearings and baseplate and the decking platform under the windless has been reinforced with and re-fiberglassed.

V-Dom is now a perfectly sorted out 2012 Lagoon 400 located in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, the jewel of the Sea of Cortes and ready to go sailing in better shape than she was when purchased by World’s Aquarium just one year ago.
