The S/V Mariposa is a Leopard 38 Robertson and Caine Sunsail 384 catamaran which was built in Built in Cape Town, South Africa by the famous Robertson and Caine in 2011. Mariposa is a Florida-based four cabin 2011 Leopard 38 for sale by owner in St. Augustine.

She spent the last 4 years cruising the east coast and Bahamas full-time, and is fully ready to sail away with 800w of solar, lithium house battery bank, watermaker, and Highfield 11ft tender with 20hp EFI outboard. She is excellently equipped for long-term off-grid living, and has been meticulously maintained by her owners. Recent standing and running rigging updates, cockpit sun enclosure, and custom helm cover.

The Leopard 38, built with robust South African Standards, received glowing reviews in major sailing magazines as well as winning both the Cruising World and Sailing Magazine Best boat award in 2010.

The Morrelli & Melvin design is both beautiful and fast and has cherry-finished interior which is attractive without excess garnish. Cabins provide practical shelving, hanging lockers, seats, and good lighting and ventilation through fixed ports, opening ports, and hatches. The berths in this 4 cabin, 2 head catamaran are quite roomy and secure. Engine noise is minimized because the engines are mounted aft and separated from the cabins by a watertight bulkhead rather than mounted under the aft bunks, as they are on some other cats.

In the bridgedeck there is a saloon with a long settee and table seats six comfortably, and everyone will appreciate the large fridge and equally large stowage locker, which can be converted into an optional freezer.

With all this interior in a cat that’s less than 40 feet, it’s tough to keep a really sleek profile while maintaining the good bridgedeck clearance that’s crucial to mitigate bridgedeck slap. However, Morrelli & Melvin skillfully use the hull flare and the curve of the coachroof to give the topsides the appearance of minimal freeboard while providing good interior volume and adequate bridgedeck clearance.

Twin fixed keels and spade rudders allow owners to sail in water that’s 4 feet deep or to nose the cat up on a beach, but they still allow superb maneuverability, upwind performance, and speed under sail.

Insurance survey from June 2019 available on request. “Above Average Condition” with an estimated market value of $235,000.
