S/V “S/V Rumaway” is a Florida based 2011 Leopard 38 catamaran for sale by owner. These are sought after boats with a stellar reputation. The Leopard 38, built with robust South African Standards, received glowing reviews in major sailing magazines as well as winning both the Cruising World and Sailing Magazine Best boat award in 2010.

BUILDERS REMARKS: The performance driven Leopard 38 is at the heart of the Leopard line. With her generous sail plan and stepped hull design, this yacht provides excellent performance. On deck, the space is well thought out and useable; from the large transoms to the open and spacious aft, side and forward decks, getting around this yacht is easy and safe. The hardtop bimini over the cockpit provides superior protection from the elements and also offers a stable working platform.

The Morrelli & Melvin design is both beautiful and fast and has a well finished interior which is attractive without excess garnish. Cabins provide practical shelving, hanging lockers, seats, and good lighting and ventilation through fixed ports, opening ports, and hatches. The berths in this 4 cabin, 2 head catamaran are quite roomy and secure. Engine noise is minimized because the engines are mounted aft and separated from the cabins by a watertight bulkhead rather than mounted under the aft bunks, as they are on some other cats.

In the bridgedeck there is a saloon with a long settee and table seats six comfortably, and everyone will appreciate the large fridge and equally large stowage locker, which can be converted into an optional freezer.

With all this interior in a cat that’s less than 40 feet, it’s tough to keep a really sleek profile while maintaining the good bridgedeck clearance that’s crucial to mitigate bridgedeck slap. However, Morrelli & Melvin skillfully use the hull flare and the curve of the coachroof to give the topsides the appearance of minimal freeboard while providing good interior volume and adequate bridgedeck clearance.

Owners Remarks:

This Leopard 38 has extensive upgrades for long term cruising. We have lived aboard and cruised full time over the past 3 years around the East Coast and down through the Keys and Bahamas.

Every system on the boat has been gone through. Some of the recent upgrades are all NEW Standing Rigging, Running Rigging, Full Solar Array with custom frame, Batteries, and a custom built office, pantry, and workshop conversion in one of the staterooms.

She has two double berths on the port side with a new electric head and washing machine. In the forepeak is a single berth. The starboard side has a double stateroom aft and the forward stateroom has had a full conversion that could easily be converted back to a double stateroom for multiple uses. There is also a forepeak with a single berth.

The boat has plenty of room and storage for long term cruising. The majority of the 3 years we have owned her we have been completely off grid either anchored out or on moorings while traveling full time with our family of 4. She is easily single handed from the cockpit. The cockpit with all new cushions and sunshades is the perfect place to relax and enjoy meals with the family.
