S/V Muvfasta is a Louisiana based Coast Guard Documented 1999 Leopard 38 Owners Version catamaran for sale by owner with 3 cabins and 2 heads. The Owners’ Version Leopard 38 is a highly sought after catamaran with a stellar reputation.
We are the second owners of Muvfasta and take excellent care of her. We have done many upgrades to Muvfasta since we got her in April 2019 that are listed below. We sailed her in the Caribbean island hopping and then sailed her from St. Lucia to Louisiana from March to August 2020 during the Covid 19 pandemic. Muvfasta handled exceptionally well and was a pleasure to sail and is a very capable blue water cruiser. Muvfasta has been in brackish water since August 2020.
The Leopard 38 (or Moorings 3800) is the one of the rare “owners layout” catamarans. The 38 handles easily, has a large cockpit and a well appointed saloon and cabins. This is the three double cabin version with a master suite occupying the starboard hull and the two cabins in the port hull share heads and showers. The galley is up in the saloon.
The deck layout is clear and the mainsheet traveler runs on an arch over the transom giving unimpeded access to the water via a wide aft bathing platform. The swim ladder was extended longer with wider teak treads and two extra treads were added for ease of getting on board after swimming. The transom arch also serves to support the aft end of the bimini, solar panels and to carry the dinghy davits. The cockpit is easy to access from the aft swim platform.
***New 3/2023 helm seat cushion & bolster, tablecloth and eight 6 volt deep cycle house batteries***
An electric winch motor was added at the helm for easy mainsail hoisting. Deep louvered steps shade the forward sloping salon windows while providing an easy and secure walkway to the salon roof. There is an aluminum plank on top of the Bimini for accessing the mainsail bag. She has wide side decks and a large forward deck for lounging with two low-stretch trampolines that have new line. The decks are solid and there aren’t any soft spots. The Leopard 38 is a competent performer under sail and power. Great for island hopping.
The main salon is entered through double doors from the large cockpit, which can both be fastened open to add to the open concept feel. The salon has 7-foot-high ceilings with a full expanse of windows with Phifertex exterior shades and interior privacy curtains as well as overhead hatches with shades. Salon cushions are new in 3/2023. There are convenient steps on either side of the salon area leading to each hull, which also have full standing room.
The owners’ suite occupies the Starboard hull with a queen berth forward with a very large storage area located under the mattress, hanging locker with shelves, up by the forward window are two shelves, there is a private head and sink en suite, a huge private shower room with sink aft, as well as a vanity/office desk area midship. We added a custom queen spring mattress with Hypervent ventilation pad underneath.
The Port hull accommodates two large queen-sized berths, each with its own hanging locker and shelves, fan and numerous ports and ceiling hatches for extremely good ventilation. Access to the engine is under the aft berth mattress as well as from the sugar scoop back deck area. The two berths are separated by a head with sink and shower which also serves as a day head. The forward berth has a very large storage area located under the mattress.
Both forward berths have additional storage in the forepeaks for additional sails etc.
Leopard catamarans boast a superior and solid construction using advanced materials such as infused glass or PVC core construction. The catamarans come in innovative designs meant to be appealing, fun, spacious, and comfortable. Capable of ocean crossings, these sea-worthy blue water cruise boats have superb build quality, and they sail all over the world. These ruggedly-built vessels are roomy, robust, and deliver superior cruising performance – some of the many reasons that would make any sailor want to get their hands on one.
If you are looking for a practical, efficient design and a stable platform, then you can’t go wrong with this Leopard 38. Everything is laid out thoughtfully and logically in a way that makes perfect sense. For instance, the layout, starting from the helm placement, engine set up to the winches, is simple, well-organized, and easy to understand.
