S/V Dugga Boy is one of the very first Owner’s Version Leopard 46 to be built with access to the helm from inside the cockpit.

People often ask us what we like best about the L46. While there are many things we like about this boat, the top 4 would be ease of sailing, excellent layout, voluminous storage and speed.

Easy of Sailing: with a sloop rig, 2 large winches at the helm (one is electric) and 5 lines led aft (main halyard, mainsheet, genoa sheets and furling line) the L46 is a very simple and forgiving boat to sail.

Massive Storage: as full time liveaboard owners, everything we need is on board…6 months of food, clothing, toys (fishing & diving gear, kayak, etc.), spare parts & supplies, tools & equipment, many appliances, etc. Yet there is still room to spare in our storage areas. Heck, we even have a large hanging lock dedicated just for our shopping bags LOL!

Spacious Layout: with the large sliding doors open, the salon and cockpit become one large living area. The U-shaped galley-up is excellent for preparing large meals, baking breads & desserts and entertaining large crowds. The owner’s hull is a living area unto itself with 12V air conditioning (runs all night on 15% of house batteries), a sliding door to close off the hull, a sofa for lounging and a huge ensuite head with large walk-in shower. Air flow is excellent throughout the boat with 13 overhead hatches, 10 opening ports and a large sliding glass door.

Speed: This is a cruising catamaran, not a performance cat. But make no mistake, with narrower hulls below the waterline, a generous sail plan, and the right wind, this boat can sail all day at 8.5 kts to 9.5 kts. And that’s with fixed blade props! We joke that we give ourselves a 1.5 kts handicap for having fixed blades. An example: When tropical storm Bret was bearing down on the Antilles in June 2023, we made the decision to run non-stop from northern Dominica to Carriacou. We completed this passage, nearly 200 nm, in under 24 hours.

It’s no surprise that the L46 has such a great reputation as one of the best all-around cruising catamarans ever built.

As full time liveaboard owners, we have installed or upgraded many of the systems on the boat over the past 3 years. A complete list of new equipment/systems, upgrades, repairs and maintenance can be provided to serious buyers.

  • Sarca Excel #7 anchor and 300 feet of 3/8” galvanized G4 chain. This is an amazing anchor and has never let us down. Even when we stopped for lunch on a short scope (4:1) and a 42 kt squall hit us, it held tight. (Dec 2021)

Cabins/Heads

  • Owner’s hull has queen bed, sofa, nav station, loads of storage…3 large hanging lockers, 6 cupboards, storage under sofa and bed. Sliding door isolates owner’s hull from the rest of the boat and keep the hull cool when using the Mabru air conditioner.
  • Owner’s head has electric flush toilet, large walk-in shower and huge linen closet. Sanitary system was completely rebuilt in 2022: new sanitary hoses (toilet to tank & tank to new seacock), rebuilt aluminum holding tank including all new standpipes and hose connection points, new joker valve on the macerator, new toilet seat. New OEM sink fauctet 2023. Works great and smells sweet!
  • Port aft cabin has queen bed, small seat w/ storage beneath, hanging locker, large cupboards at foot of bed and ample storage beneath bed.
  • Port aft head with walk-in shower enclosure. Repaired sanitary system in 2022: replaced main seal on toilet, new Jabsco pump, new joker valve, repaired holding tank, new toilet seat. New OEM sink faucet 2023. Works well and smells sweet!
  • Port forward cabin has double bed, hanging locker, large cupboards at foot of bed and large storage beneath bed. Forward V-berth is accessed from this cabin and has single bed and shelving (currently being used for storage).
  • Port forward head has been converted to a utility room with Costway washing machine new 2022 (can be converted back to a working head if desired).

Salon/Galley

  • Added 3rd 120V circuit with 2 outlets in salon. One at stove area and one at salon table. No more tripping breakers when using oven and microwave together!

  • Port Hull: Cruisair 16,000 BTU 120V. Believe this unit is original to the boat but it runs well and cools very quickly (due to older/better refrigerant than newer units).

  • The solar and lithium batteries provide all the power needed to run everything on the boat: Navigation equipment, Mabru air conditioner, water maker, convection oven, microwave, fridges, freezer, etc. The only time we run the generator is when we get more than 2 days of clouds. For example, we ran the generator once per month in the Bahamas just to keep it running well. But when the tail end of hurricane Ian stalled over the Chesapeake for 6 days, we ran the generator on days 3, 4, 5 and 6.
  • Shore Power: installed 2 new 30 amp SmartPlug outlets and 2 x 50’ 30 amp SmartPlug power cords

Sails & Rigging

  • Standing rigging replaced 2018.
  • New main halyard and mainsheet (2021). New genoa sheets, furling line and davit winch lines (2023). All other running rigging is in good condition.
  • Main Sail: New Mack mainsail - full battens, 10.62 oz Challenge Marblehead Premium Dacron W/ 5 ’ wide full leech 2 ply, aluminum adjustable battslide fittings, dyneema webbing chafe strips and 3 reefs. Sail cloth is excellent condition – still stiff (Dec 2021)
  • Genoa: Ulman Sails with UV strip on roller furler. Inspected and re-sewn in 2023. Sail cloth is in very good condition
  • Asymmetrical Spinnaker: Quantum spinnaker with sock in excellent condition. Includes storage bag, tack lines, sheet, shackles, swivel shackle for head, and 4 Harken blocks. Rated for 20 knots apparent wind.
  • Stack pack with lazy jacks: all new zippers in 2023. Good condition
  • 1 Lewmar 54 electric winch at helm starboard. Used for main halyard, mainsheet, starboard genoa sheet, furling line, asym sheet
  • 1 manual Lewmar 54 winch at helm port. Used for port genoa sheet, mainsheet, asym sheet
  • 2 Lewmar 46 manual winches at mast. Used for reefing lines, outhaul, genoa halyard, spinnaker halyard and downhaul (if needed).

Engines/Sail Drives/Rudders

  • Engine Hours: approximately 3000 hours on each engine at time of purchase (note that hour meters were not working at that time). We have manually kept track of our hours since we bought the boat. 714 hours on port engine and 516 hours on starboard engine.
  • New engine mounts on both engines (3 per engine) 2023
  • 2 x Yanmar SD50 saildrives. Both sail drives were upgraded with a kit from Gideon. This resolves the issue of premature failure of the cone clutches on SD50 sail drives. It also improves the shifting of gears, oil pressure relief and better seals on the lower unit.
  • New zincs 2023
  • Spare cone clutch on boat.
  • Starting batteries: 2 x NAPA AGM (PN 9849) – 975 cranking amps, 850 cold cranking amps
  • Charging system: Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30 non-isolated DC-DC chargers for each engine
  • Replaced propellers with new OEM propellers in 2022. Kept old props as spares
  • New rudders, rudder shafts and bearings in 2022. Built by Foss Foam in Florida.

Diesel/Gasoline/Propane

  • Diesel: 2 x 94 gallons. Tanks located under each aft bed
  • Diesel jerry cans: 30 gallons (6 x 5 gallons)
  • Fuel polishing system installed under starboard bed. It is a FilterBoss Commander system and services both tanks.
  • Racor filters are installed on both tanks, engines and the polishing system. Many spare Racor filters come with the boat.
  • Gasoline jerry cans: 19 gallons (2 x 5 gallon, 2 x 3 gallon, 2 x 1.5 gallon)
  • Propane: 37 lbs (2 x 10 lb aluminum, recertified in 2021; 1 x 17 lb fiberglass new in 2021)

Water

  • Water: 2 x 100 gallons, both tanks located in forward starboard lazaret
  • Rainman high output 120V water maker. 36 gallons/hour.
  • All equipment and parts needed for permanent installation are included with the boat (control panel, mounting brackets, etc.)
