S/V Cerca Trova is a 2008 Manta 42 Mk IV catamaran, for sale by owner. She is hull #127, the last one built, and includes all the cumulative features and improvements that the Manta designers and owners had created over the years.

The port hull features the owner’s suite with a master queen stateroom aft and a private head with a separate shower forward. Midship has multiple built-in bookshelves and storage cabinets that line the port hull companionway. The starboard hull features an aft guest queen stateroom and a forward guest single stateroom. A guest head with a separate shower is shared, and built-in bookcases line the companionway. The vessel includes a fully equipped galley and saloon for lounging and entertaining.

At the helm, one can handle every sail control with the electric winch. The main halyard, jib halyard, spinnaker halyard, main sheet, jib sheet, Dutchman boom brake line, and two reef lines lead to the helm through the deck organizer to sheet clutches. There is a third reef line that can be used if needed. There is also a custom spinnaker with a top-down furler and a separate winch midship in the cockpit for the spinnaker sheets.

Manta catamarans are US-built bluewater vessels with an excellent reputation established as serious offshore liveaboard catamarans that can easily be singlehanded. They were all built with “owner” version layouts, with two heads, two queen berths, and one single berth.

From 2010 to 2013 and 20,000+ miles, the previous second owners had lovingly cruised, upgraded, and maintained this amazing boat with the intent of keeping all the great construction and features built-in and, in a few cases, going a bit beyond. They had upgraded storage shelving systems throughout the boat with custom carpentry. They made many small improvements to the boat’s livability but generally have kept it faithful to the factory design which has been proven and tuned with the untold sea miles of the Manta fleet.

Custom canvas and awning systems make the cockpit safe and comfortable on passage or at anchor. The North cruising sails are incredibly tough and yet also fast. The US Spars rig is the most advanced design installed by the factory and includes numerous elements for optimal sail control including adjustable vang, outhaul, and Cunningham. The Camber-Spar self-tacking jib makes single-handed sailing a breeze both upwind and downwind.

The modest-hours engines, generator, and watermaker mean there is much more life remaining in these key systems (the generator and watermaker were rebuilt in March and April 2024 respectively). The LFP batteries are a dream to live with. No more sweating out a full charge every day. The dual externally regulated engine alternators, good solar capacity with dual charge controllers, and the high-capacity generator/charger system mean there is enough power and redundancy to live off the grid as you wish without scrimping. State-of-the-art Furuno navigation electronics and the latest-generation ICOM VHF and SSB radios mean you have full control of the boat, with the best data and voice radio capability inshore and offshore.

Big projects in 2019 were all-new topsides gelcoat, nonskid, and Coppercoat (which is still under the conventional Trinidad Pro paint that performs much better in warm tropical waters). In the winter of 2019-2020, two new 340W solar panels were installed along with two 210Ah Lithium batteries. Between 2021 and 2022 all new Furuno navigation instruments were added. All of this combined with new running rigging in 2022 and 2023, new standing rigging in January 2023, a rebuilt generator, and Spectra Catalina 300 watermaker in March 2024, means Cerca Trova is truly ready for immediate cruising.

Numerous quality-of-life touches throughout (e.g. solid stainless, not metal foil stove backsplash, custom viscofoam mattress and topper in master cabin, viscofoam mattress topper in guest cabin, HyperVent mattress underlay for all mattresses, upgraded fans, extra DC and USB power outlets, custom stove-top cutting board), all boat-specific spare parts, tools and materials, basic galleyware, nesting pots and pans, cleaning supplies, dock lines, five Aeré inflatable fenders (new in November 2023), boat-hooks, PFDs, etc.

We are leaving this wonderful boat in a cruise-ready state so you can move aboard and go. We are currently cruising and the boat will be in Beaufort, South Carolina this summer.
