The Ocean Twins is 38 ft ‘Pat Patterson designed’ centre cockpit catamaran. The ‘Ocean Twins’ comes from a long pedigree within a successful range (includes the Heavenly Twins), built in Cornwall, UK. The success of the Heavenly Twins model propelled Pat to build the Ocean Twins as a next generation of larger cat, which was a much more purposeful design, built for long distance cruising. She is well built throughout making her an ideal live aboard long distance or coastal cruiser.
The cockpit helm is in a central position, giving a clear view of both bows and stern for ease of manoeuvring at close quarters. All sail handling can be done from the safety of the cockpit. It is a secure, protective cockpit for crew and passengers. There is a large amount of flat useable deck space. A small main and large furling genoa make this a very easy boat to sail.
The space on board is quite amazing, with an extremely comfortable social layout below decks. Competing against the Prout and Catalac in its day, the Ocean Twins was differentiated as a more roomy catamaran ideal for a small family with three large double berths and two heads. There are also a couple of small singles (really passage berths) ideal for kids. The galley is down, but because of the “open plan” design, the chef is not going to feel left out of the action. She is a great live aboard option with generous headroom through out.
The Ocean Twins is well balanced with engines placed amidships with shaft drive coupled with three blade reversing propellers making it easy and accessible for maintenance and not having to take your bed apart to get to everything.
S/V Mabs has had an easy life and been well looked after and it shows. She is well equipped for world cruising and just had a major engine service in March 22. She is in the right place to explore the Mediterranean (or the World), based in Spain with moorings available in beautiful historic ‘Cartagena,’ one of the most historic ports in Spain. She is fitted with keel shoes making it easy to dry out on the slip in tidal waters.
