S/V Vista Vida is a 2007 Privilege 495 Owners Version catamaran, for sale by owner. She has never been chartered, and had all major systems refit for its next owner to sail away with confidence for both coastal cruising and blue water ocean crossings.

“Our adventure was wonderful, but our teenagers are ready to finish school on land with friends. It has been an amazing boat, has kept our family safe and comfortable, but now is ready for its next owner.”

The Privilege 495 is known for its sleek design, aviation style salon windows, extra-long sugar scoops, aggressive sail plan, beautiful, crafted woodwork throughout and its HUGE owner’s cabin that stretches from hull to hull.

“My wife loved the large owner’s cabin that stretches from hull to hull. We both had our own spacious private dressing areas with hanging lockers and so much room for clothes. We installed a new luxury mattress in 2022. Nothing better than being gently rocked to sleep each night by sounds and waves of the sea.”

Privilege catamarans are not built for the charter industry, instead each boat is individually tailored to the owner – every one of them a statement in itself: luxury on the ocean, superb stability, reliability, safety, performance and durability.

“The Privilege 495 was engineered sturdy and strong. It didn’t groan and moan like some of the charter boats we spent time on. Even in rough seas, I have always been confident in this vessel. Another thing I like is it’s foam core construction that doesn’t rot and weaken over time, like many of other catamarans.”

Next, it is a work of art both inside and out. Outside is its recognizable sleek aviation style windows and low freeboard. Inside, it’s finishes, and workmanship resemble ancient craftmanship that you no longer see on the newer boats that have all gone with the modern, RV style look and quality.

“My wife is an artist and instantly fell in love with the curves and beautiful finishes of this vessel. To remake it in 2024 dollars would cost a fortune. I guess that’s why so many are going with the simple modern interiors now.”

More about the brand. Privilege was created in 1985 by internationally renowned sailor Phillipe Jeantot (founder of the Vendee Globe yacht race). Based on his unequalled ocean sailing experience and profound understanding of the dynamics of ocean conditions, particularly for sailing vessels versus hull design, Jeantot set out to design catamarans who would set a new benchmark in the world of multihull sailing, with an obsession for perfection which applied from construction quality and stability, while at the same time combining comfort, luxury, liveability, durability and without compromising on performance, which is surprisingly outstanding for a yacht without daggerboards, but which elongated transoms improves upwind sailing performance, as well as minimize the dreaded “hobby-horsing” in a short “chop” typical of more stubby modern multihull designs.

“When we bought the boat, we asked the previous owner what he liked and what made it stand out over others that were for sale. He response was that “it’s a Privilege – need I say more!” I didn’t understand what that meant, until a few months into ownership. It has continued to grow on us. We will miss it for sure!”
