S/V Ahimsa is a Connecticut based 1999 Leopard 38 catamaran for sale by owner. This is an Owners’ Version, highly sought after boats, with a stellar reputation. The Leopard 38 handles easily, has a large cockpit and a well-appointed saloon and cabins. She has a huge cockpit with cocktail/dining table.

This is the three double cabin version with a master suite occupying the starboard hull and the two cabins in the port hull share heads and showers. The galley is up in the saloon. The deck layout is clear and the mainsheet traveler runs on an arch over the transom giving unimpeded access to the water via a wide aft bathing platform. The transom arch also serves to support the aft end of the Bimini and to carry the dinghy. Deep louvre steps shade the forward sloping saloon windows while providing an easy and secure walkway to the saloon roof. The Leopard 38 is a competent performer under sail and power.

S/V AHIMSA is a modern, clean design catamaran with molded sun shields on forward windows that duplicate as exterior steps leading to the mainsail. She has a 360-degree view for her spacious salon with numerous opening hatches and ports for cross ventilation in all areas, including in all cabins, heads and shower area.

She has a wide aft catwalk for easy passage to the cockpit and interior. The catwalk duplicates as a swim platform that spans the hulls aft with stern boarding stairs on both the Port and Starboard sides, and a stainless-steel swim ladder on the Port side. There is also a hand-held shower in the aft.

The main salon is entered through double doors from the large cockpit, which can both be fastened open to add to the open concept feel. The salon has 7-foot-high ceilings with a full expanse of windows as well as overhead hatches with shades. The open-concept design has a large circular seating area, with upholstery, FLIP TOP 20X 35.5 “ teak table, and complete U-shaped galley to Port. It is equipment with an LED flat screen TV, as well as fans, opening ports and hatches to enhance the air flow throughout the area. There are convenient steps on either side of the salon area leading to each hull, which also have full standing room.

The owners’ suite occupies the Starboard hull with a queen berth forward, a huge private shower room aft, as well as a vanity/office desk area midship. AHIMSA is designed for minimal maintenance with her teak and holly flooring throughout and removable overhead panels for easy cleaning and/or access. Each cabin also has wide side deck and a large forward deck for lounging with two low-stretch trampolines. This vessel is a spacious cruiser with all the conveniences.

The Port hull accommodates two large queen-sized berths, each with its own hanging locker, fan and numerous ports and ceiling hatches for extremely good ventilation. The two berths are separated by an electric head, sink, and shower, which also serves as a day head.

The Bimini is covered by solar panels attached to a stainless-steel frame. They came with the boat and I cannot attest to their age though I would guess they date around 2010. Each panel either produces 48 or 52 watt and there are a total of 14 panels, which add up to approximately 700 watts. Twelve of these panels are wired in series-parallel are run to an Outback Flexmax 60-amp controller at 80 volts at the battery bank. The other two panels work but are unused at the moment because they would bring the array amperage down if wired in as a parallel set- in series with the rest. Aft Solar Array (630 watts) A second solar array sits aft of the Targa bar on a stainless frame. The array is comprised of two 315-watt panels set in series to feed 80 volts into a second Outback Flexmax 60 charge controller.

8 X 230 amp-hour 6-volt lead-acid batteries – August 2022. These batteries are comparable, if not better than, Trojans. The batteries are wired in series-parallel to comprise a 920 amp-hour bank at 12 volts.(a 48V system) Capacity: 447 minutes @ 25 amps; 115 minutes @ 75 amps EACH.

Leopard Catamaran boats boast a superior and solid construction using advanced materials such as infused glass or PVC core construction. The boats come in innovative designs meant to be appealing, fun, spacious, and comfortable. Capable of ocean crossings, these sea-worthy blue water cruise boats have superb build quality, and they sail all over the world. These ruggedly-built vessels are roomy, robust, and deliver superior cruising performance – some of the many reasons that would make any sailor want to get their hands on one.

If you are looking for a practical, efficient design and a stable platform, then you can’t go wrong with a Leopard Catamaran. Everything is laid out thoughtfully and logically in a way that makes perfect sense. For instance, the layout, starting from the helm placement, engine set up to the winches, is simple, well-organized, and easy to understand.
