A jacuzzi in the owner's suite, a dumbwaiter to the bar and a crew wing that never crosses guest space — this 2012 Sunreef is built around living aboard.
Some catamarans are designed to be looked at. The Sunreef 82 Double Deck Houbara was clearly designed to be lived in. In a detailed walkthrough of the 2012 yacht, listing broker Staley Weidman moves deck by deck through a boat whose layout logic — guests one way, crew the other — reveals itself gradually, cabin by cabin.
Old-world craftsmanship, Gdańsk-built
The first thing the video lingers on is the joinery. Wood grain carries throughout the interior, and as the tour points out, it is a showcase of the old-world craftsmanship that comes out of Gdańsk, Poland, where Sunreefs are built — furniture-quality woodworking rather than boatbuilder cabinetry.
An owner’s cabin with a jacuzzi
Forward of the master is a dressing area with a view outside and space to lay out clothes; four steps up leads into what the video calls a magnificent space. The owner’s cabin is nearly full beam, with a bridge-deck outlook and — yes — a jacuzzi, ringed by planters. They hold artificial greenery today, but the broker relays a detail straight from the owner: when the boat was in heavy use, they grew herbs there.
The suite also has a separate vanity, electric blinds that drop across the whole cabin, Bose surround-sound speakers and a television that rises on a lift — positioned so it can be watched from the jacuzzi. The lighting runs on Sunreef’s programmable switching: sophisticated behind the panel, but one button kills every light in the cabin. The en suite forward and to port has a molded glass sink basin, the boat’s logo etched into the shower doors, and a shower with body jets, a rain head and a wand.
The double-deck concept
What separates this model from a conventional 82 is the mezzanine. Rather than one flat saloon, Houbara offers two distinct living areas on different levels — a sitting area with a rising television, and a separate entertaining space — plus a raised nav station overlooking the lot. The view from up there, the video notes plainly, is worth the climb.
That helm is a working station, not a token one: engine controls, autopilot steering, Garmin chartplotter and radar, AIS, compass and wind instruments, plus a vessel-systems display for fuel, water, tank capacities, alarms and a deck-by-deck lighting diagram. There are port and starboard generator controls, the 24-volt watermaker system, the 220-volt display, a chartplotter repeater, and an onboard computer holding navigation charts, maintenance logs and boat-specific files.
In the saloon, what looks like a galley is actually a substantial bar and entertainment area — wine fridge, ice maker, drinks fridge and barstools, set up for buffet breakfasts as easily as evening cocktails.
Galley down, crew apart
This is a galley-down boat, and the galley is genuinely large: propane cooktop and oven, full-size fridge and freezer, an additional top-loading freezer in the sole, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and a small television that lets the space double as crew mess. A motorized dumbwaiter with two shelves sends food and drinks up to the bar in the saloon. Storage beneath is described as truly enormous — bilge space about as wide as a 45-foot monohull, deep enough to stand in without touching the floorboards.
The starboard aft cabin is crew quarters: two bunks that slide together into a queen for a couple, a fold-down third berth, and a private head and shower. Crucially, the whole starboard aft section closes off behind a privacy door, and crew have their own entrance — in and out of the galley, mess and cabins without ever crossing guest space.
Guest accommodation sits to port. The aft cabin sleeps three via a concealed fold-up bunk, or converts to a queen with a couple of pins. The port forward cabin is the largest on that side: an island queen with access on three sides, twin vanities, charging points, hanging lockers and illuminated cabinets — plus the signature run of small Sunreef hull windows, evident inside and out. A port head with a red vessel sink, stand-up shower and freshwater-flush toilet serves the hull, alongside a bank of linen storage.
