Aboard S/V Alegria: A 2019 Lagoon 450F Owner’s Version

Five solar panels, a Dedicated Marine hardtop and one careful set of owners — this Puerto Rico–based cat is set up for life at anchor.

Filmed on what the guide calls “one of the nicest afternoons I’ve had in a while” in Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico, this walkthrough of S/V Alegria is a relaxed, thorough lap of a 2019 Lagoon 450F in Owner’s Version layout. It’s the kind of tour that rewards a careful viewer: the upgrades here aren’t cosmetic, they’re the sort a cruising couple adds after living aboard.

Decks, ground tackle and toys

The tour opens at the starboard mechanical space, home to one of two Yanmar 4JH57 diesels, then moves forward along the 450’s famously walkable side decks — generous width, reassuring rail height, and one of the two kayaks that convey with the boat lashed alongside. On the bow sits the standard Lagoon trampoline layout plus an upgraded 85-pound Rocna anchor on 200 feet of chain, served by a Quick windlass. The forward seating area is a highlight, and the cushions tell their own story: the current owners have stowed them below whenever they’re off the boat, and they look it.

The flybridge: hardtop, isinglass and serious solar

The standout modification is the hardtop, isinglass enclosure and solar array, all fabricated by Dedicated Marine in Florida. The narrator repeatedly praises the build quality — “with the solid construction she’s not going anywhere” — and the practical benefits are obvious on camera: the isinglass keeps a passing squall from soaking the crew on the run into port, while a sunshade tames the afternoon heat. Five solar panels feed the array, including two large panels mounted on the hardtop, each with its own Victron controller. The pitch is straightforward: enough power at anchor that you’re not reaching for the generator.

At the helm you’ll find B&G electronics, a Quick anchor chain counter and windlass controller, an electric winch to starboard and two manual winches to port. With lines led aft to the helm, the guide makes the case that Alegria is genuinely single-handable. B&G radar and a smart-looking sailbag round out the rig aloft, and a sun lounger on the flybridge gets billed as the best seat aboard for stargazing.

Cockpit living

Aft, the second engine space houses the other Yanmar, and the high-speed dinghy — picked up in St. Martin — looks close to new thanks to chaps that have always protected the Hypalon. It’s been fitted out with cup holders and a center console. The cockpit itself carries a custom-built platform for a barbecue running the small green camping propane bottles, another sun lounger, a U-shaped settee with a large dining table, and an overhead hatch that pulls a breeze through at lunchtime. Below the counters: plenty of storage and workspace for an outdoor bar.

Salon, galley and cabins

Inside, the 450’s panoramic glazing does its work, and the U-shaped galley offers a lot of prep space — extended further by an owner-added cutting board cover for the stove. There’s a freezer, a fridge under the counter, double sinks, a coffee station and bottle storage. The starboard electrical panel carries 110V and 12V breakers, the Onan generator start and the solar controller display. Forward sits the nav table with a second B&G display, B&G VHF control and a Fusion controller.

The Owner’s Version master occupies a full hull: a lounge couch, a desk for working aboard, a spa-like head with abundant counter space, mirrors and a large shower, and an aft berth with big windows, an overhead hatch and two portholes for cross-ventilation on nights without air conditioning. To port, two guest cabins each have en suite dry heads with electric toilets and generous closets and shelving; the tour notes the tall headroom that distinguishes these 450s.

Alegria has had one set of owners since new in 2019, privately sailed around the Caribbean from her Palmas del Mar base, with a stint in Florida for the hardtop and solar upgrades.
