A solar-rich, owner-loved catamaran built for easy short-handed cruising and long stretches off the dock.
Broker Cynthia Wummer of The Multihull Company walks us through S/V Grand Crew, a 2019 Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 that has clearly been cared for and thoughtfully upgraded. From the dolphin seats on the bow to the sun lounge above the cockpit, the tour highlights a catamaran designed for both comfortable liveaboard life and confident passagemaking.
On Deck and at the Helm
The bow area sets the tone: dolphin seats forward, a full-width sunbed, and a centerline anchor locker equipped with an oversized 85-pound Mantus anchor, 300 feet of new 3/8-inch chain, and a backup Fortress F39 with an additional 50 feet of chain. The starboard forepeak doubles as storage and a crew cabin, complete with mattress, head, and sink, accessible from deck or interior.
Grab rails run the length of the coachroof for safe movement underway. At the starboard helm, every line is led aft to two electric winches and one mechanical winch — all two-speed — making this a genuine short-handed or single-handed platform. Electronics include a 16-inch Raymarine Axiom chartplotter, Raymarine autopilot, AIS, Doppler radar, and satellite, alongside gauges for the twin Volvo 60 hp diesels.
Sails, Power, and Systems
Sail inventory includes a fully battened, square-top mainsail, a genoa on a traditional furler, and a recently added Code Zero with a sock. Auxiliary power comes from twin Volvo 60s with three-blade Gori folding props, backed by an upgraded 13.5 kW Cummins Onan generator.
Where Grand Crew really stands out is in her energy setup: 2,300 watts of solar blanket the upper deck, paired with 1,200 watts of lithium storage and two Victron 3000-watt inverter-chargers delivering 6 kW. According to Cynthia, the combined system can run the air conditioning for up to nine hours without firing the generator — a meaningful advantage for anchor-out cruising.
Cockpit and Salon
The cockpit is fully enclosed with sunshades, includes a propane grill, a passerelle, and a 12-foot AB RIB tender with a 20 hp Yamaha. Inside, the salon feels expansive and bright, with storage tucked under floorboards and throughout the galley. The galley is equipped with a stove and oven, twin large refrigerator drawers, a dedicated deep freezer to starboard, and a custom espresso machine that conveys with the boat. The nav station handles Fusion audio, VHF, and the tank and inverter monitoring in one tidy spot.
Accommodations
The owner’s hull is a full-length suite: a queen berth with walk-around access, an office desk, multiple drawers, closets, and a hanging locker. The head is equally generous, featuring a large vanity, a newly installed bidet toilet, and what Cynthia calls the largest shower she has seen on a sub-50-foot catamaran. The guest hull offers a queen aft cabin with en-suite electric head and separate shower stall, and a vented washer-dryer sits in the companionway.
