Aboard S/V Nyango: A 1996 Fountaine Pajot Venezia 42 Refreshed

A five-year owner walks the decks of this cruising catamaran — including a full nonskid rebuild finished this January.

Some owner-led tours tell you more than a spec sheet ever could. This short walkthrough of S/V Nyango, a 1996 Fountaine Pajot Venezia 42, is one of them — a candid lap of the deck from the person who has cruised her for the past five years.

Cockpit and helm

The tour opens in what the owner calls a “super comfortable” cockpit, built around a table large enough to seat six to eight people in comfort — a reminder of how generously the Venezia 42 uses her beam. The helm station sits close at hand with instruments, control panel and navigation grouped together. Aft, the rail carries a propane grill and a Starlink mount, with the dinghy hanging on davits.

A deck rebuilt from the fiberglass up

The most substantial story here is underfoot. When the current owners bought the boat, the entire deck was covered in artificial teak. After moving the catamaran to the tropics, the product began shrinking, so it came off. The existing nonskid and gel coat were then sanded and ground back to bare fiberglass, 40 individual nonskid patterns were created and epoxied down, and the whole surface was re-gel-coated — work completed in January 2026. The result, as the owner puts it, is a deck that “looks brand new.”

Stowage, water and power

Forward, deck hatches open into crew berths on both sides that the owners use as storage. The trampolines are described as being in really good condition, and the forward compartment houses the windlass, anchor chain and a spare anchor. The main locker holds two water tanks totalling 200 gallons, a 30 lb propane tank and a freshwater rinse, plus stowage for fenders, lines and shore power cable. Overhead, 500 watts of solar sits on the bimini top, and there are seats for riding out a passage in comfort.

Where the model sits today

Interest in the model has picked up lately, and the pool of boats on the market is small.
