A meticulously refit bluewater cat in St. Martin, freshly kitted for the trades and looking a decade younger than her hull number suggests.
Filmed dockside in St. Martin, broker Alexis de Boucaud walks through S/V AMAZING, a 2004 Catana 471 Ocean Class in the sought-after Owner’s Version layout. What stands out immediately is how little of the boat feels its age: her current owners recently completed a six-month refit that touched nearly every system, surface, and fitting aboard.
On deck, the refit story is easy to read. The cockpit teak table has been restored, new canvas wraps the cushions and Isinglass, and a substantial gantry carries the bulk of roughly 1,800 watts of solar spread between the arch and coach roof. Power is stored in a lithium bank, and the Raymarine instrument suite, throttles, and a remote for the central electric main winch are all recent additions.

Rig, Sails and Ground Tackle
The Catana 471 carries an Alu-carbon mast with a single set of spreaders and radar aloft. Her sail wardrobe is essentially new: a 2024 Doyle laminate mainsail, a self-tacking jib on a track, and a fixed inner stay ready to fly a genoa, with a gennaker and spinnaker forward for downwind trades. Standing rigging dates to 2018, and much of the running rigging has been renewed. The trampolines are new, the forward lockers and engine-room bilges have been repainted, and fresh teak steps have been fitted on both transoms.
Twin Volvo D2 55-horsepower diesels handle propulsion. The port engine was replaced in 2024; the starboard engine remains original. A Highfield 3.8-meter aluminum tender with a 30 hp outboard rides on the davits — a properly sized dink for a cruising family.
Interior: American Cherry, Beautifully Preserved
Step below and the Catana’s signature American cherry veneers glow throughout, paired with Corian countertops that still look showroom-fresh. The galley features a Force 10 three-burner stove and oven, a freezer opposite the fridge (both cooled by 12-volt hull-mounted capillary systems), and new stainless faucets. Nearly every push-button latch and fixture has been replaced, and both companionway staircases were rebuilt in new teak.

In Owner’s Version trim, the entire starboard hull is dedicated to a private master suite. The aft cabin features a huge opening porthole — one of those oversized ports that current CE regulations no longer permit — while forward sits the famous Catana walk-in shower, sink, and stowage. To port, a large aft cabin converts twin singles into a king with a filler, a wet-head guest bathroom sits amidships, and a generous V-berth occupies the bow. Ventilation, thanks to the boat’s oversized hatches, is excellent.
A small Lombardini 4.5 kVA generator supports the 12V/220V system. The boat has just sailed roughly 1,000 miles to windward from Belize, arriving with a full spares inventory and the confidence of a shakedown well passed.
